Description

Acrylic on 22x30 RIVES BFK paper

The subject in this painting is actually a section of a trash installation at VCU, made up of cardboard, tape, styrofoam, and some swimming noodles.  My favorite part about it though is how ambiguous it is - you can see whatever you want in it.  :D  This was my FIRST EVER acrylic painting, and it was kind of a bumpy ride trying to figure out the medium.  I'm super glad I did though.

I enjoy the color scheme being grayscale which leaves it more up to interpretation by the viewer. As well the strokes of the background and some areas seem like wide sweeping strokes which create a good smooth transition. Good job on that. What I don't particularly like about this is that the perspective on some of these objects seem to be off considerably. Make sure to take some time in making sure those are correct and it will look more correct. From what you said it is a bit all over the place so the viewer can see different things, but that may not be a good thing with how you painted the piece. if it were meant to be a more abstract piece then perhaps taking more liberties to exaggerate these shapes would help. Messing with the lighting helps as well. For a first time painting in acrylics you get bonus points it's not that bad at all you did well. You should definitely try another soon!
